Continuing my series of short posts from Balbirnie House Park, nr Glenrothes, here is a couple of photos of peeling tree bark. The first photo is of logs from an ornamental cherry tree, the second photo is from an old silver birch log.

      • My younger daughter – who also has a WP blog (but is doing NaNoWrimo at the moment) is a good photographer, and she did the photo of me for Amazon. I hate it! But believe me, she took almost 200 pics of me that day and decided that one was the only possibility. Her pet phrase is that, when anyone photographs me I ‘pull a face like an alien’. So no, photos of me are not good at all. 😀

      • Ha ha ha! I think NaNo’s treatable, in the long run. NaNoWriMo is National November Writing Month. So many aspiring authors on WP are participating in it right now. It involves reaching a set word limit by the end of the month – totally unedited. I don’t write that way, and will continuue to write my third book, editing sections as I go along. Each to his own, as they say. Photos of me are always awful, but I have put one or two on posts during the year. They aren’t close-ups though! You are a lot younger than me, so go for it!:D

      • I must confess, I guessed that NaNoWriMo was something about writing, but I guessed it was a months abstinence from writing. I thought I could give that one a go!! 🙂 I would be like you Millie, I have to edit as I go along. I find even with my short posts that sometimes that’s a real drawback. Once I’ve edited a paragraph, I’ve forgotten how I was going to write the next one!! 😦 Even from the back Millie, there isn’t that much difference in our ages 🙂

      • We’ve not got that much wind here Millie, plenty of rain/sleet earlier, but we are the top edge of a small low pressure heading out into the north sea via The Wash, you are to the south of it (and thus much windier). We weren’t actually without internet at all, just it had gone down to dial up speeds for some reason. My blog took about 10 minutes to load, refreshing a page took about a minute 😦

      • Our internet connection in this village is always poor, and I know how frustrating it can be. I’m surprised we still have any connection in this wind. But sleet doesn’t sound good at all, although I know you’ll be used to getting it early up there. 🙂

      • Oddly enough Millie, we don’t get all that much snow here in Fife, we had one days worth last winter, that stayed on the ground for about 24 hours 😦 To me, that’s really upsetting, I love the snow!! We are fairly lucky connection wise, we are on the fibre optic, which most of the time is okay, but we need it with all the kids and their pcs/video game machines 😦

      • Snow is wonderful, unless you have to drive a long way. In 2010, we had thick snow here from November to February and roads out of the village were treacherous.
        We’ve been promised fibre optics … but we’re still waiting! We just get overlooked because the village is so small. 🙂

      • I have noticed since moving to Scotland, that there seems to be more snow ‘down south’ now. The 12 years I lived in Guildford, there was hardly any snow 😦
        That is one of the disadvantages of living in a small village, but I guess there are plenty of advantages to make up for it 🙂
